The Blueprint, in ten chapters
The same material as the deck, readable here. Open the chapters that matter to you.
Six constraints shape secondary education outside the well-resourced urban schools: uneven connectivity, uneven device access, uneven teacher coverage in the sciences, curriculum pacing that varies by school, cost sensitivity, and the fact that adoption is never automatic.
VirtualX does not claim to solve connectivity. It is built to tolerate it — the catalogue and a learner’s progress stay usable when the connection is poor, and playback resumes rather than restarts.
520 video lessons across Grades 10, 11 and 12 — five subjects in each grade, taught in curriculum order rather than as a searchable pile: Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Geography.
Everything described here is running in production and can be checked before any commitment is made. The platform is public and the policies are published rather than available on request.
Six steps, and the sequence carries the operating model: funded access, a learner-owned account, the grade catalogue, playback, study help grounded in the lesson being watched, and progress recorded against that lesson.
The account belongs to the learner throughout. Funding it does not mean holding it.
Three parties with three separate powers. The partner funds and assigns seats. The learner holds the account. VirtualX operates the platform and remains the authority for access.
Seats are drawn from atomic pools, so a pool cannot be oversold. That is a control in the system, not an assurance in a document.
R90 per learner-grade seat for 30 days for partners, against R180 bought individually. One unit, one term.
There is no automatic renewal. Access ends when the term ends and has to be bought again deliberately. Most buyers expect the opposite, so it is worth stating before it is asked.
Most VirtualX users are minors, so the design starts there rather than adding protection afterwards.
- Partners hold no learner passwords, at any point.
- Returning from a payment page grants nothing. Only a validated provider notification grants access, so a forged or replayed browser return cannot create entitlement.
- Study help answers from the lesson in front of the learner, with a citation to it.
Ninety days, with the measures agreed before launch — a measure chosen after the fact is not evidence. Monthly reviews, and a decision at the end: stop, improve, or scale.
Three columns, kept strictly apart, because blurring them is how a pilot loses trust:
- What the platform measures — seats assigned and redeemed, lessons opened, time in lesson, progress, study-help use.
- What a partner can conclude — usage, reach and engagement across the funded cohort.
- What nobody may conclude from this data — an academic outcome. VirtualX does not measure marks and does not claim to move them.
Stated here rather than waited for. A buyer who discovers a boundary themselves discounts everything else in the document.
- Lessons stream. Downloading lessons for fully offline viewing is not available today.
- Study help accepts text, images and PDFs. Voice and video input are not available.
- Teacher authoring and adaptive learning paths are not available.
- A free tier is not available — access is bought per learner-grade seat.
Four steps, in order:
- Agree a pilot scope — grades, schools and seat count.
- Agree the measures before launch.
- Run 90 days with monthly reviews.
- Decide at the end: stop, improve, or scale.

Size an indicative pilot
Published per-seat pricing, multiplied out. It is a sizing aid, not a quotation, and it creates nothing.
Indicative only. This is not a quotation, and it is subject to scope and due diligence. It creates no account and no order.
Sites in the pilot
Funded learners at each site
One seat covers ONE grade
Each term is 30 days
- Learner-grade seats per term
- 300
- Indicative total over 3 terms
- R 81 000
5 schools × 60 learners × 1 grade = 300 seats, at R90 per learner-grade seat per 30 days.

What VirtualX does not do today
Stated plainly, because a partner will find these out anyway and it is cheaper to hear them now than after a signature.
- Offline playback
- Lessons stream. The catalogue and a learner’s progress stay usable when the connection drops, and progress is queued until it returns. Downloading lessons for fully offline viewing is not available today.
- Academic outcome evidence
- No controlled study has been run. No independently audited academic result is claimed.
- Licensing unit
- A seat is one learner, one grade. Shared classroom displays, laboratories and pre-installed device fleets are a Corporate scope item, not the standard seat.
- Endorsements
- No national Department of Basic Education endorsement is claimed. Partner references are available under formal request, consent and due diligence.
Governance and due diligence
- Learners own their accounts. A partner never holds a learner password.
- Access is granted only by a validated payment notification. Returning from a payment page grants nothing.
- Study help answers from the lesson in front of the learner, with a citation to it.
- Policies are published rather than available on request.
